Throughout 2024 and into 2025, a new research project of Pol-Ed will be undertaken by Huddersfield University. Throughout the research, both teachers and pupils will be spoken to and asked a range of questions about the Pol-Ed resources. With the intention of learning about our scheme’s good points, areas for improvement but also the impact the lessons and assemblies have had on them.

  • Greater student retention of information.
  • Positive feedback.
On school community
  • Raised awareness of various community issues (e.g. alcohol, cyber-related crime).
  • Helps breakdown misperceptions (e.g. learned in home).
  • Greater understanding and appreciation of police role in community
On students
  • Increased knowledge and awareness of risk.
  • Greater awareness of issues in communities - also demonstrated how to keep themselves safe.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pol-Ed?

Pol-Ed is a range of PSHE related resources for schools and educational inputs for police forces and Local Authorities to deliver in a school or other settings.

Who is it for?

Pol-Ed is for a local authority who wants to work closely with our partners in education with the purpose of keeping our children safer and also use educational inputs to prevent children from becoming involved in crime.

Who has commissioned it?

Pol-Ed has been commissioned and developed by West Yorkshire Police to support its partnership working strategy and help keep our young people safe. The original Pol-Ed programme was funded by successful bids for money from the Proceeds of Crime fund.

‘Proceeds of crime’ refers to the assets, funds and property gained whilst undertaking criminal activity. Authorities such as The Crown Prosecution Service have the power to confiscate these assets thanks to the Proceeds of Crime Act.

How much will it cost?

The cost of Pol-Ed varies by individual Forces based on the population size of that Force area.

Pol-Ed could be covered through funding from POCA, PCC, Safer Street Fund or various other grants and income streams.

For price information and advice around funding methods please email Pol.Ed@westyorkshire.police.uk.

How do we support the delivery of resources?

The Pol-Ed team supports the roll out of Pol-Ed within a Force area and produce CPD videos for teachers, Officers and other trusted partners to broaden their knowledge and support them with delivery of difficult topic areas.

Can resources be downloaded?

The Pol-Ed resources are designed to be delivered online from the website; this ensures that you are getting the most up to date version of the lesson available. As legislation / education guidance changes, the Pol-Ed team will update any lessons which are affected to keep the content legally correct and relevant.

Can I suggest an input?

The Pol-Ed team are keen to have user input and suggestions for lessons. Please visit our suggestions section where you can make lesson topic suggestions to the Pol-Ed team, or email us at Pol.Ed@westyorkshire.police.uk.

Can I track usage?

An LA can track both usage of Pol-Ed education resources by schools for individual lesson usage and groups of lessons usage. They can also track the delivery of Youth Inputs within their LA area by third party partners.

The Pol-Ed school resources are designed for delivery by teachers only.

Police Forces have access to the Pol-Ed Police Inputs and Intervention 22s, which can be delivered by Officers or other Police staff.

Local Authorities have access to a range of Pol-Ed Youth Inputs, which are designed to be delivered by trusted third parties.

How do third parties gain access to Pol-Ed?

Third party access to the Pol-Ed Youth Inputs is granted by the LA overseeing the area in which the third party operates. The decision to approve or decline your access lies with the LA. Third parties should register their interest and wait for LA approval.
