Academic research

At Pol-Ed, we want to ensure that all our resources are fit for purpose and meet the needs of Forces, schools, and children. During early 2023 a short research program of Pol-Ed was undertaken by Huddersfield University, some of the findings are below:

Throughout 2024 and into 2025, a new research project of Pol-Ed will be undertaken by Huddersfield University. Throughout the research, both teachers and pupils will be spoken to and asked a range of questions about the Pol-Ed resources. With the intention of learning about our scheme’s good points, areas for improvement but also the impact the lessons and assemblies have had on them.

2. Educate and Protect Young People
  • Focus on four key areas: Relationships, Keeping Safe, Understanding the Law and Wellbeing.
  • Help children understand risks such as child sexual exploitation, anti-social behaviour, cybercrime, and violence
  • Promote diversity, equality, and inclusion through inclusive lesson content.
3. Strengthen Police-Community Relationships
  • Foster trust and understanding between young people and the police.
  • Reduce future demand on police services by educating children early about consequences and risks.
4. Support Local Needs and Consistency
  • Lessons are tailored to local contexts and statutory PSHE requirements, ensuring relevance and compliance.
  • Police officers may also deliver sessions directly, enhancing engagement and consistency of messaging.
5. Accessibility and Expansion
  • Resources are free to schools within participating police force areas.
  • Future plans include SEND-specific content to ensure inclusivity.
